Ambitious trekker Annie Clark is gearing up for an expedition in China to raise funds for a heart charity - after a friend's life was claimed by heart disease.
The British Heart Foundation is set to benefit from Annie's efforts, after her six-day tough terrain adventure in October.
The 75km hike will take in near-vertical climbs in China's Shaanxi province. The 100-strong expedition team will also visit the world-famous Terracotta Warriors.
Annie, of Mount Avenue, Westcliff, was inspired to raise money for the charity after her friend David Austin died last year.
She said: "Those who knew David have so many wonderful memories of this 'gentlest of eccentrics'. I feel confident many of his friends will want to honour his memory."
Heart disease is the UK's biggest killer, with one person dying every two minutes.
It causes premature deaths in 40 per cent of men and 30 per cent of women. If you would like to sponsor Annie, call 01702 479114.
