Brentwood and Ongar MP Eric Pickles has launched a survey of constituents on his website after receiving 'a significant number' of concerns regarding NHS provision in the area.

Mr Pickles said: "Recent figures show a massive number of people are spending their life savings on Health care in the private sector because of the length of time it takes to see a consultant at local hospitals.

"The waiting lists for Havering Hospitals NHS Trust has 10,875 people on it. Even the health authority admits this is too high as they are writing to some 8,000 of those people asking if they still need treatment or can be removed from the list!

"That is unacceptable management and is causing considerable concern among constituents, especially the elderly and their carers. It is also why I am launching this Health Watch campaign.

"I wish to hear from those that need or are receiving care from the NHS. I want to know what treatment they needed, how long they had to wait and whether they were happy with the treatment they received and the conditions in which our doctors and nurses are having to work.

"The easiest way for people to get information to me is to visit my website at http://epickles.tories.org and fill in the feedback forms as that is a fast and efficient means of communication.

"Letters and faxes are also welcome to help us build the most comprehensive picture possible of local health care provision."
