"Essex boy" Danny Hunt is to appear in the world's first-ever televised boxing promotion on the worldwide web.

The Frank Maloney-promoted event tomorrow is headlined by the IBO world title fight between South Africa's Zolille Mbityl and Argentinian challenger Sandro Oviedo.

But local fight fans can also see Danny take on Les Frost on the undercard.

The potential for sport on the worldwide web is growing, with last year's racing at Royal Ascot drawing 2,000 paid hits.

Danny is excited to be taking part and said: "It's great to be involved in a live broadcast. Hopefully local fans will tune in to watch."

Viewers can log on to the site at www.fightnight.com but those who want to see the fight in the flesh can obtain £25 tickets from Danny on 01702 511298. Coach travel is also available.

Battle of the Daleys sees Gary grab glory

Southend ABC's Gary Daley, 15, scored the best win of his career when he beat Tilbury namesake Joe Daley at the Essex ABA tournament at Heybridge's Moat House Hotel.

The Tilbury boy looked dangerous with his combination of hooks, but Gary, already a full-grown middleweight, stayed cool and crossed with a perfect right to down his opponent at the end of the first round.

Joe, who had a count of eight, got up looking groggy and the referee wisely stopped the fight.

Andy Cullinane put in a terrific late comeback to claim a third-round victory against Harlow's G Garrent. In a bout in which both fighters ended up with bloodied noses, the Harlow man looked ahead at the end of the second round.

But Cullinane had saved the best for last and some fierce combination punching in the final round forced his opponent back. A heavy right cross to the jaw then knocked him out for the full count.

Sullivan doesn't break sweat

Southend ABC bantamweight Danny Sullivan won the Essex and Eastern Counties ABA title - without throwing a punch.

Danny received a bye in the first round and was then told there was no opponent from Sussex to fight in the final either.

Dean set to knock his rivals for six

Basildon light-heavyweight Dean Doyle is looking forward to a first six-round fight following a good win in his second professional bout at York Hall in Bethnal Green.

Dean, 22, outpointed journeyman Mark Dawson over four rounds and manager Barry Hearn believes his fighter is now ready to step up to a six-rounder.

The decision comes after a fight in which Dean coped well with a seasoned professional who knew every trick in the book.

Derbyshire man Dawson has lost almost half of his professional fights and tried to unsettle Englishman Dean in the early rounds with taunts of "Paddy" - Dean's family have Irish roots.

But the Basildon southpaw kept his head and eventually settled down to outpoint his opponent with the help of his punishing right jab.

Dean said he hadn't boxed as well as he had hoped, but is realistic enough to know he will reap the benefits in the long term.

He said: "It was a good learning experience for this early in my career. I roughed him up, took some good shots and came out with no cuts or bruises.

"The last opponent just stood there but this guy had been around and tried to unsettle me, although he apologised for the "Paddy" taunts later."

Dean is now in training for the six-rounder at the Hilton Hotel in London on May 27.

Meanwhile, the Basildon fighter joined Grays boxer Darren Bruce to hand out the prizes at the Essex Amateur Boxing Association championships at Grays Civic Hall.

Chalvedon Boxing Club's Steve O'Flynn won the light-middleweight award when he stopped Southend's John Cullinane in the third round.
