A lucky woman has been celebrating after scooping almost £11,000 from a £1 stake on the horses.

The Thundersley woman won the huge sum after placing her meagre stake at H&K Commissions Bookmakers in the town's Hart Road.

Bosses from the firm will drop off a cheque for £10,936.10 at the betting shop today for the woman, who has not been named, to pick up.

A spokesman for the bookies said the winner enjoyed a regular bet on the horses most Saturdays and had won the cash on a "place pot" bet.

The woman gambled on six different horses to win a place in six different races - including the Grand National - and came away with the countrywide jackpot.

The spokesman said: "She did really well to scoop all that and the cheque will be taken to the shop today for her collect."
