The 23rd Marconi Short Mat Bowls Club's Tournament attracted a full compliment of 35 Rinks on Saturday.
The Round Robin eliminating format consisted of seven groups of five rinks with the winners of each group, plus the best overall runner up qualifying for the knockout quarter-final stages.
Two rinks, Alan Diver (Gooshays) winners of Group 2 and Norman Oliver (Warren Hath) winners of Group 4 qualified with maximum points.
Derek Mace (Canvey Island) Group 1, Rose Victory (Gooshays) Group 3, Ray Mew (Bromfords) Group 5, Trevor Robinson (Southminster) Group 6, and Frank Amoss (East Hanningfield) Group 7 all qualified unbeaten dropping just one point.
They were joined by the best runner up Eric Cooper (Woodlands) who with a shot difference of +25 just edged out Alan Wills (Willows Park) +21.
In the quarter finals, Derek Mace beat Rose Victory 15-3, but Alan Diver kept his clubs interest alive with a 9-5 success against Norman Oliver.
Both the other matches went to an extra end with Frank Amos edging out Ray Mew and Eric Cooper accounting for Trevor Robinson.
The semi-finals produced two excellent matches with Viv Tegerdine, Jean Mace, Del Tegerdine and Derek Mace inflicting the first blemish on Ted Such, Betty Such, Doug Crowther, and Alan Diver's afternoon with a convincing 10-4 success.
The other finalists were Colin Smith, Ricky Coster, Ted Simpson and Eric Cooper, who made the most of qualifying through the back door beating David Amoss, Heather Amoss, Ken Burn and Franck Amoss 7-3.
The Canvey rink finished worthy winners when after an early reverse they fought back to win an exciting final 9-6.
They were successful in every match following their opening 8-8 draw in the qualifying section, to remain unbeaten throughout.
