Saturday saw the Falcon Bowling Club stage its first Junior Gala Day at their Seymour Street, Chelmsford headquarters and several clubs took part.
Ipswich Junior Bowls sent four boys, Essex County Westcliff Colts 10, Colchester B.C. eight, Jacks Centre Latchingdon six boys and one girl and the Falcon Juniors were represented by 15 boys and three girls.
The day started with a Spider - a jack is placed in the centre of the green and all the participants surround the green and on command, bowl one bowl to the Jack and when all come to stop, the nearest wood is the winner.
The first Spider was won by Graham White of the Falcon.
Then there was a Colts Drive of 10 ends and points for all events were totalled to a combined score.
The results were: (1st) Andrew Croft of Essex County Colts + 32 points. (joint 2nd) Mark Parsons and Shaun Thompson (both Falcon) 29 points. (3rd) James Pierce (Falcon) 21 points. (4th) Jason Gibson (Colchester) 20 points. (5th) Matthew Piggot (Essex County) 19 points. (6th) David Dixey (Essex County) 18 points and (7th) Nicky Carlet (Jacks Centre) 17 points.
Falcon Captain John Court presented the prizes.
The gala ended with a second Spider which was won by Jason Gibson of Colchester.
Falcon hopes to make this day the first of many and after watching these 47 teenagers bowl, the adage that Bowls is an old mans game went right out of the window.
On Saturday Falcon entertained Clockhouse B.C. from Upminster and beat them 128-81.
