City's dream of the treble evaporated on Sunday against the side they look to have pipped to the league championship.

On the neutral venue of Saffron Walden F.C., Chelmsford were forced to start the match without two of their players who were held up in traffic congestion.

When they eventually arrived near half time, which meant a last minute re-shuffle of the starting line-up, City were trailing 2-1 by which time the two players had arrived.

A re-shuffle of the team saw City start the second half as they had wanted to have started the match and immediately got back on level terms through Melanie Edwards with her second goal.

Chelmsford never got their fluent football going although they did dominate the half but chances went begging.

Pye were restricted to just two chances, one of which resulted in a penalty awarded for handball.

City goalkeeper Michelle Bridgeman nearly saved the spot kick, and Pye's second goal came courtesy of a City defender, who was unfortunate to deflect the ball into her own net.

This Sunday, City travel to Harlow looking to round off their league season with a win although the team need to avoid a 14-0 defeat to lift the title and go into a three team play-off for a place in the South-East Combination of the National League.

Chelmsford City: Bridgeman, Marshall, Watts, Edwards, Blundell, Robinson, Garner, Shirley (Ramos), Drane, Purdon and Gammon. Unused substitute: Hunt.
