Wheelchair athlete Hadj Lahmarr sets out next weekend to make an impression on the Great Britain Paralympic team selectors.
Lahmarr, 20, has his sights set on the Sydney Olympic 100 and 200 metre races but to impress the selectors he is hoping to win an important race on Sunday - the London Marathon.
"It sounds crazy, I know," said Lahmarr. "But to make sure I get noticed and to make it difficult for the selectors to ignore me I have to perform well over 26 miles. All my training over the winter has been going well and I'm hoping for a good result on Sunday.
"I have been training twice a day, six days a week and usually get in something like 120 miles of road work a week," he said.
Lahmarr, uses the marathon as a strength building exercise for his arms to produce the power he needs for the sprints.
"I think I've got a good chance to win on Sunday despite it being my first go at it. I'll tag behind the pace-setters because I don't know the route and then hopefully be able to put in a bit extra near the end."
Lahmarr will have to wait until the end of June, when the team is announced, to see if he has done enough to impress the selectors.
