Rayleigh Lodgers really had a ball as they won the Southend Wednesday League's Lamkin Cup with a 4-1 final success over Southend Postmen in the final at Eastwoodbury Lane.

Chris Ball and Mark Terry grabbed two goals apiece for the winners as Postmen's poor form in the second-half of the season continued.

With the weather closing in, honours were fairly even for the first half-hour but, once Mark Terry had put Lodgers into a 2-0 lead, heads began to drop in the Post team.

By half-time they were 3-0 down with substitute Ball having notched the third goal.

A further goal from Ball in the second-half put Lodgers 4-0 up before the disconsolate Postmen grabbed a consolation just before the final whistle when the ball went in off a defender for an own goal.

With heavy rain now falling, the cup was presented by committee member Ray Eley.

The League Cup final, due to be played at Purfleet between the Police sides of Grays and Basildon, was postponed due to heavy rain causing the pitch to flood.

It's hoped that the match can be rearranged for one evening next week.
