Police are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian fractured his neck in a collision with a car.

The 29-year-old Colchester man was taken by ambulance to the town's general hospital where he was detained.

He had been crossing East Street, Colchester, near the junction with Ipswich Road when the accident happened at 7.05pm on Wednesday.

He was in collision with an Austin Metro being driven by a 68-year-old West Mersea man who suffered shock.

A Ford Fiesta being driven by a 44-year-old Colchester woman following the Metro was forced to brake sharply.

The Fiesta was then involved in a collision with an Austin Montego driven by a 19-year-old Lawford man.

Witnesses are asked to contact Stanway traffic police on 01206 762512.

Police refused to release further information about the incident.
