A South Woodham man hopes to add vibrancy to the town with an internet caf for young people.

Grant Scott-Douglas got the go-ahead from Chelmsford Borough Council this week for the scheme which involves converting a disused shop in Guild Way.

Members of the development control sub committee on Monday approved the scheme subject to a five year time limit.

"The intention is to provide something for teenagers in South Woodham," said Mr Scott-Douglas.

He added: "I have three teenagers myself and I feel they are very under-supplied in terms of places they can go to be together as a group.

"I feel I can create a pleasant, safe, well managed environment for them to gather in, one with which they can identify and feel caters specifically for their needs."

The cafe will centre around the computers from which the internet can be accessed and there will be retailing of computer equipment.

There will also be a seating area where customers can relax with hot and cold drinks and food.

Mr Scott-Douglas added: "There are a number of small hurdles yet to leap but as soon as I have got over them and prepared the site for the intended use I will be looking to open in the early summer months.

"These premises have been vacant since June or July last year and I have got some exciting plans and hope to bring some vibrancy to that part of town and provide a highly desired addition to the town's supply of curricula for children."
