Superbike racer Malcolm Armfield could not hide his frustration after a set-up error cost him dearly in the latest round of the Motorbike Racing Organisation series at Snetterton.

Malcolm had set some excellent times on the first day of the meeting when he finished in 11th and 12th position in his Bemsee club class races.

But rain played havoc with his efforts on the second day when he made the catastrophic decision to go out on wet tyres for the qualifying.

The track dried out and the Benfleet rider failed to make the starting line-up. But it was a mistake made by many of the riders at the Norfolk circuit.

Malcolm said: "I put the bike on wet tyres but after three laps it started to dry out very quickly.

"I couldn't change them because there wasn't time but I knew I probably wouldn't be fast enough on the tyres. Whatever I did would have been wrong."

The Supersport 600 competitor added: "It's really frustrating because the times I had recorded the day before would have put me on pole position. That's what does my head in."

His frustration was matched by that of Leigh on Sea racer Clive Smith, who competes in the Supersport 400 series.

After finishing in a creditable 11th place in the opening race of the MRO's, he was taken out on the seventh lap of race two when he was battling for seventh spot.

But he was more than happy with his weekend results as a whole after recording three sixth-place finishes in the Bemsee club races.

John Cordery of Langdon Hills, finished in 23rd position in the MRO Supersport 600 event.
