The main event at Channels Golf Club at the weekend was the Presidents Silver Jubilee Cup which was by invitation of the President, Tony Stubbings.

The invitations went out to all Past Captains, both ladies and gentlemen plus all those that had served on the committee or helped in the running of the club over its first 25 years and were still members.

This large field of players took part in a Texas Scramble, starting from three separate tees and finishing in time for all the players and a few other guests to enjoy a buffet and to witness the prize giving and some presentations.

The winning team was that of Lesley Welham, Judy Dunbar, Jeff Pocock and Terry Warmington, who scored 63.0, playing off 10 per cent of the combined handicap.

The Lady Captain, Brenda Stubbings, Marlene Wilson, Dave Curtis and Malcolm Standish were second with 63.2 and third place went to the team of Ivy O'Brien, Marie Fearn, Tom Whyte and Simon Everitt, who scored 63.4.

Prior to the prize-giving the President welcomed all those that had contributed to making the club the successful and popular club that it is.

Tony Stubbings told the company how pleased he was to have been able to complete the avenue of trees along the road beside the 14th fairway, each tree having been dedicated to the Captains of the Club, Ladies and Gentlemen, for the 25 years of the Club's history.

The President also presented those Captains present, starting with John Truss, who was the very first Captain and now unfortunately confined to a wheelchair, with a commemorative set of cufflinks.
