Grahame Beale started his defence on Wednesday of the evening 10 mile series that he won in 1999 when he won the first round of this year's championship.
Grahame recorded 25m 39s on the Downham-Ramsden Heath circuit Malcom Judd was second in 26m 36s with David Spraggins, third in 29m 15s.
Others to ride were Mark Stanbury 30m 19s, Tim Turner 32m 21s and Mick Scott 32m 44s.
On Saturday morning using the same course Steve Tidiman was the winner with 24m 38s from Grahame Beale 26m 5s with David Spraggins third in 29m 19s.
The evening 10 mile series is being run over the next 20 weeks and any cyclist interested in taking part is advised to telephone Mick Scott 01268 287819 or Mark Stanbury on 01277 657930 for details of the series and other events that the Essex Roads Cycling Club run.
