Not everyone would describe a year in one of the world's poorest countries as the trip of a lifetime.

But 19-year-old student Jenny Onneryd, of Harwich Road, Wix, is relishing the chance to teach in Malawi in August.

A language specialist, Jenny will teach in a village just outside the capital, Lilongwe.

She said: "I don't know exactly what I'm going to be doing, but the main thing will probably be teaching science, maths and English. I've always wanted to go to Africa and this is a great opportunity.

"I am really looking forward to it, it's quite exciting."

Jenny is involved with Project Trust, an organisation which helps send volunteers on charity missions all over the world.

A registered charity, Project Trust has put £500 towards the £3,850 needed by Jenny, who is studying for her A-levels at Colchester High School for Girls.

Now Jenny, who is aiming to attend Cambridge University on her return from Africa in September 2001, must raise the rest to pay for the trip through sponsorship and fundraising.

A sponsored walk is being planned - once she has sat her A-levels in June. But Jenny is hoping local businesses will also contribute.

If you can help, contact Jenny on 01255 870572.

Africa hope - Jenny dreams of adventure.
