Lomana Tresor Lua Lua was guest of honour at a soccer course at Colchester's Sir Charles Lucas School.
Colchester United's teenage whizz-kid made an appearance to present certificates and prizes to more than 70 soccer-crazy kids.
He attended the course which was part of the club's football in the community scheme.
He spoke to the children and warned them of the dangers of drugs, alcohol and cigarettes and urged them to lead a healthy lifestyle.
U's community officer Steve Downey said: "Lomana's so popular and the kids really warmed to him."
