Swimmers from Rochford and District Swimming Club finished the Essex 2000 age group championships in the same fashion as they started - with a clutch of medals.

The club contested the third and final round of the series at Fulwell Cross pool at Barkingside and came away with four more medals.

Harriet Adams won silver in the 200m backstroke to add to the three golds and two final placings she had collected in the previous rounds.

That tally ensured she captured the 15-year-old top girl award plus the Glynne Brown Memorial Cup, awarded for the first time this year in memory of a former member of staff from Warrior Square pool in Southend.

Fourteen-year-old Gemma Pool received her second gold medal by becoming Essex 100m backstroke champion. She also reached the 100m and 200m breaststroke finals and came sixth and fifth respectively.

Laura Myers took silver in the 100m breaststroke after being beaten by less than half a second. The 14-year-old took a second silver in the 200m breaststroke.

There was a bronze for James Grigg in the over-19 200m backstroke final. Emma King, 12, was sixth in the 100m freestyle and Rebecca Brindley was sixth in the 14-year 200m breaststroke.

Sophie Drake, Harriet Adams, Gemma Pool and Laura Myers qualified for the junior girls' relay and came an impressive fourth in the freestyle 4x50m final.

The finalists were supported by clubmates Sarah Anderson, Megan Williams, Jade Perry, Christopher Rdiley, Felicity Isaac, Ben King, Ben Conniford, Lewis White and Sam Edwards, who all qualified and competed well.
