A pool professional is set to take a pot at becoming the fastest player in the world to clear two tables.

As part of a televised Guiness World Record challenge, 29-year-old Colchester man Steve Daking will test his shooting skills against the current world champion Dave Pearson.

Mr Daking, who went to Colne Community School in Brightlingsea, qualified as a professional player eight years ago.

He now runs Cue Action Pool Promotions and tours the country delighting audiences with his pool trickery.

He said: "I have been practising like mad, but I know on the night what I need is a lucky break. I haven't played on American tables for a while, but I do think Dave's record is beatable.

"Just being asked to make the attempt is a real honour. For me to take the world record, I will have to be the first one to clear two pool tables in less than two minutes and one second, the current world record.

"I've done it many times in practice but with competition conditions we'll both only get one chance."

But having starred in his video Pool Tips and Tricks, Mr Daking is no stranger to the camera.

The programme - called Guiness World Records - will be screened on ITV on Easter Saturday.
