A bride became a honeymoon heroine when she rescued a boy from drowning.

Eilish Lee, 29, of Morant Road, Colchester, was sunbathing on a Cyprus beach when a father and his two children got caught up in a riptide.

The father had gone into the sea to rescue his daughter and was desperately trying to keep her head above water.

This Is Essex at Easter

During the two Bank Holidays this Easter our National News and National Sport sections will continue to be updated as usual.

There will be no Local News and Local Sport uploads on Good Friday; on Easter Monday these two sections will be refreshed close to or at midday.

Normal upload times will resume on Tuesday April 25.

The team at This Is Essex would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy Easter. He was followed in by his son and within minutes all three had been caught in a dangerous tidal current that flows out to sea and makes swimming very difficult.

Mrs Lee said: "We were relaxing when all of sudden this bloke was shouting for help.

"At first everyone thought he was mucking about but then you could see his little girl was having trouble."

As a beach lifeguard rescued the girl, and another sunbather helped the father out of the water, Mrs Lee rushed into the sea to pull out the boy.

Mrs Lee, head chef at Dix-Neuf in Head Street, Colchester, married two days earlier on the island.

The incident happened at Coral Bay, a popular tourist beach. She said: "You just don't think about at the time. I knew my husband could not swim so I just went in and pulled the boy out.

"I think there must have been a problem on the beach that day because I heard someone else had got into trouble later."
