A 10-year-old boy enjoying a holiday treat flight died along with two pilots in a mid-air collision over Essex.

They had not been identified today (Thursday) after the crash on Wednesday evening.

This Is Essex at Easter

During the two Bank Holidays this Easter our National News and National Sport sections will continue to be updated as usual.

There will be no Local News and Local Sport uploads on Good Friday; on Easter Monday these two sections will be refreshed close to or at midday.

Normal upload times will resume on Tuesday April 25.

The team at This Is Essex would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy Easter. Police said that the boy's flight, in a Cessna, was apparently being watched by his father from North Weald airfield. The two-seater collided with a single-seater Yakolev Yak 50 biplane which had previously been involved in aerobatics.

The crash happened around 5.25pm over Hastingwood, just outside Harlow.

Crash debris was strewn over a large area.
