Bad driving and crazy pedestrian behaviour has always made good TV.

But footage shot from a police car driving round Colchester in 1947 used in Colchester Hospital Television's Millenium video has proved such a success that more is to be added.

The special two-hour video is copied free of charge to more than 100 residential homes and hospitals throughout Colchester and north-east Essex.

The police car footage shows two-way traffic in the High Street and cars in Culver Street, an area now pedestrianised.

The programme-makers now plan to include a further clip in the next video of Clacton from a police car.

Paul Diggens, station manager at CHTV, said: "Our viewers have enjoyed seeing the old scenes of Colchester, it's gone down very well."

Elizabeth Farnhill, Essex Police Museum curator, said: "The video was compiled more than 50 years ago to demonstrate examples of bad driving and pedestrian behaviour throughout the county."
