Sam Pedder from Cranston Park won two singles titles when the 'Wilson' Whitehall Junior Open tournament was played in Chingford.

Sam captured the boys 18 singles title last week with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Peter French from Billericay. He added the 16 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 success over Alex Forbes from Hertfordshire.

Peter French won the 21 singles title by beating James Nelson of Gidea Park 6-0, 6-4 in the final.

Gidea Park's Ben Prichard won the boys 12 singles with a 6-4,6-1 over Andrew Knights from Middlesex in his final.

Laura Stubbs (Cranston Park) was the girls 14 champion having a 6-3, 6-0 scoreline over Sophie Taylor (Woodford) in the final.

Ben Levi from Gidea Park was runner-up in the boys 10 final, losing out to Tom Knights from Middlesex 0-6, 3-6.

Oliver Oxland from Gidea Park partnered Jack Pugh in the final of the boys 14 doubles and they finished runners-up after losing out 3-6, 1-6.

Gidea Park pair, Ben Prichard and Mark Weatherup were runners-up in the boys 12 doubles.

Mark won the 12 and under mixed with Rebecca Dainty from Middlesex. In the final they beat Michael and Rachel Crowley 6-1, 6-0.

This coming weekend Saturday, May 6 and Sunday, May 7 it is time for Play Tennis 2000.

43 clubs and centres are opening up their courts for players of all ages and standards to go along and try out the game.

Up to 100,000 nationwide are expected to take up the game this weekend.

Over 1,000 clubs and centres are opening up their facilities this weekend as part of Britain's biggest free tennis campaign being staged by The Lawn Tennis Association to attract and inspire newcomers to the sport this summer.

While the promotion kicks off this weekend another is planned for the weekend July 15/16 and coincides with the Davis Cup match which is being played against Ecuador at Wimbledon.
