Intrepid Wickford mum Jackie Snape is planning a daring trek across Peru to raise cash for disabled people.

Jackie, 39, of Kingsley Close, has appealed for help from individuals and businesses in the area as she tries to raise the £2,500 necessary by walking more than 100 kilometres across dusty tracks and rough terrain.

The trip will raise money for the Scope charity, for sufferers of cerebral palsy.

Physiotherapist Jackie, who is due to travel to the Peruvian region of Machu-Picchu in September, said: "I just saw it advertised in the paper and thought 'I'm going to do that'.

"I decided I needed to make my mind up or I might miss out."

Mother-of-two Jackie admitted to feeling "a bit daunted" at the prospect of travelling to the remote South American country.

She is getting into shape for the gruelling two week hike by going to the gym and going for long walks.

She admitted she was not sure quite what to expect but added: "It's going to be quite an adventure.

"They've said I must be under no impression that it's in any way a holiday - it's going to be hard work!

"My husband's keen for me to go. He know's it's important - but he wouldn't want to come himself!"

Jackie has a special reason for raising money for the Scope charity - her eight-year-old nephew James Amass is a sufferer of cerebral palsy.

She stressed the bulk of her entry fee would go to the charity, adding: "All cheques should be made payable to Scope, not to me!"

Jackie is busy contacting businesses in the town to ask for contributions, and organising fundraisers, including quiz nights and a garden party for kids on June 11.
