Stanway kept alive their dream of promotion from Jewson League division one with a 2-1 win at a much improved Norwich United.

It was a good comeback from Rovers, who are now relying on Ely and Downham to slip up in their last games of the season to achieve promotion.

Norwich took the lead after ten minutes and Andy Sapey was then unlucky to have two shots cleared off the line and see another hit the post.

The game turned on 39 minutes when Stanway goalkeeper Nathan Munson made an excellent save and Rovers went down the other end and scored, a header from James Todd.

By half-time the scoring was complete, Rob Bate firing in from 20 yards.

Sapey and James Mackey both had chances to extend the lead in the second half but it wasn't to be.

Halstead finished the season with a flurry as they grabbed a 2-2 draw at home to Diss in the Jewson League premier division.

In what was manager Shaun Bailey's last game in charge, Halstead fell two behind in as many minutes during a frantic spell in the second half.

But the home team were determined to finish their season in style, and fought back excellently late on.

Youngster Phil Lee, who had only just come on as a substitute, pulled one back with five minutes left.

And Paul Gibbens completed the comeback with an equaliser two minutes from time.

The victory moves Halstead up a place to 18th - although they could drop back down again as Stowmarket have two games still to play.

Clacton, who still have an East Anglian Cup semi-final to go on May 13 against Ely or Diss, finished their league campaign in style with a 3-1 win at Woodbridge.

Mark Farthing put the Seasiders ahead on six minutes and Gavin Armitage added a second after the break.

Woodbridge pulled one back but striker Ian Bennett wrapped things up with the third with quarter of an hour to go.

The Seasiders are guaranteed an excellent fourth in their first season in the premier division.

The Matt Fowler Memorial Shield final, between Wivenhoe reserves and Gas Recreation, will take place at Wivenhoe's Broad Lane ground on Friday, kick-off 8.15pm.
