A human chain is to be formed along Chelmsford High Street to demonstrate support for the Jubilee 2000 campaign for western countries to drop the world debt liabilities of impoverished countries.
The event, to be staged on May 14, will start in Central Park, Chelmsford, with a service at 11am.
Families are invited to take picnics, and there will be music from groups including school bands. Speakers will include the Bishop of Chelmsford, the Rt Rev John Perry, and Simon Hughes, MP.
The gathering will move into the town centre at 2.15pm, when the Chelmsford 2000 Human Chain will be formed.
Those taking part are asked to wear something red and to take along whistles and rattles.
