This is the police e-fit picture of a woman who last week pretended to be an Essex social worker when she attempted to see a sick baby at a house in Churchill Rise, North Springfield, Chelmsford.
The child's mother refused her entry and, when asked for an ID card, the smartly dressed woman claimed to have forgotten it and left.
The caller was about 5ft 4in tall, with straight, dark hair in a bob. She was wearing a navy blue suit and a cream or white coloured top, and carried a ladies-style briefcase.
Detective Inspector Dave Brew, of Chelmsford police, said: "There have been similar incidents in recent weeks and we urge families to be on their guard. If anyone thinks they recognise this woman, please contact me." Call DI Brew on 01245 491212, or ring Crimestoppers free on 0800 555111.
