Long-awaited plans for a £15 million cancer centre in Colchester have been delayed again.
Regional Health chiefs were due to discuss the plan in July but now they say their agenda is too full and it will probably be put back until October.
Mike Salmon, chief executive of Essex Rivers Healthcare Trust, told board members yesterday (Monday) he was concerned about the delay.
"This is something everybody wants and it is still taking years," he said.
North Essex Cancer Partnership -- Essex Rivers and Mid Essex Hospital Services Trust -- has drawn up a timetable for when it says the purpose-built unit should be built at Colchester General Hospital.
Now the earliest it will be built is the end of 2003 -- about three months later than hoped.
The Eastern Region of the NHS has to agree to the plan before it can go-ahead.
