Stock Brook Manor Golf Club's Ladies Section members were out in force to play for the Lady Carter Salver.

The weather was fine when the competition started but by the end of the day the back of the field was coming in wet and tired.

The winner was Heidi Hutley with 40 points, which meant an immediate cut to her handicap. The competition was played over two days (Saturday and Tuesday).

The was doubt whether the ladies would play due to heavy rainfall the night before. They turned up keen, and although the weather was fine, the ground was extremely wet.

Tuesday was different, with the course drier and sun shining, the ladies had a very pleasant day.

Gloria Barry, a Tuesday lady, was the winner with 39 points.

This was a qualifying round and Gloria will be going through to play in the Final at Burnham-on-Crouch Golf Club on 17th October.

In the Thornton Cup third round tie at Stock Brook Manor, against Upminster, Stock Brook Manor led by 3.5 to 1.5 points at lunch with 10 singles matches to be played in the afternoon.

On the course the lead in the matches frequently changes hands during what was an exciting afternoon of golf.

With some superb golf on display many players were under par for their afternoon rounds.

On completion of the 10 singles matches the score was tied.

Mark Downey, representing the home side, and Matthew Stables of Upminster, played sudden death from the first tee to decide a winner.

However, Downey drove into a fairway bunker and was unable to match Stables' par in front of a large crowd of supporters of both sides, and so it is Upminster who now progress into the quarter finals of the competition.
