The Beverley Sisters were forced to tie up one of their greatest fans - but it was all for his own good.

The last time pensioner Sydney Ambrose watched the sisters in Walton he clapped so hard that one hand swelled up to almost twice its normal size and he had to receive medical attention.

So when Syd, 71, sister Cathy and brother-in-law Ron, of Gouldings Avenue, Walton, went to check out the three divas at the Columbine Centre on Saturday evening, nobody was taking any chances.

Placed in his front row seat, Syd was given the treat of his life and was treated like a king by the Bevs.

"It was fantastic, a really good night," Syd said.

He wasn't feeling quite so chipper when the hand injury occurred at the same venue in 1997.

He said: "I must have been clapping in the wrong way. I had been to see the sisters and clapped so hard my hand just swelled."

Meanwhile the causes of all the problems were pleased to see their adoring fan. Sister Joy said they were all delighted to see their number one fan.

"He is wonderful isn't he," she said. "He is such a special fan. We only found out about it after the show when it was on breakfast television so we tried to get in touch and called him up. We are going to keep an eye on him."

The show was deemed a success by Syd, of south London, but afterwards he complained: "They wouldn't let me clap, They tied me up."

No clapping now - Sydney Ambrose meets his idols the Beverley Sisters.
