A motorist escaped serious injury after his car hit the central reservation of the A12 and overturned.

The Ford Sierra, travelling towards Colchester near Dedham, took out about 50 metres of barrier before coming to rest.

The driver, a 30-year-old Ipswich man, was released from the Sierra before the arrival of the fire brigade and treated for minor cuts.

Police said no other vehicles were involved in the accident, which happened shortly before 12.40am on Sunday.
