The Brentwood Schools Athletics Championships were held on Wednesday at Gloucester Park, Basildon, and the Ursuline School were in superb form.

All the schools were there except the Anglo European School, who were unable to compete except for a small group of Year 10 pupils.

The Ursuline School fielded full teams in all age groups and had over 10 girls competing, and several Ursuline girls broke district records.

Sian Larkin (Year 7) broke the 800m record to 2.41mins; Sara Luck (Year 8) broke the 800m record to 2.24mins; Sarah Luck (Year 8) broke the High Jump record to 1m 53cm; and Gemma Salmon (Year 8) broke the Discus record to 24 metres.

The Overall Girls Trophy was also won by the Ursuline, and this is the first year that Ursuline have won the overall trophy.

An Ursuline spokesperson said: ''This is a fantastic result and is a reflection of the high standard of commitment that the girls give''.

This comes at the same time as the English Schools Track and Field Cup National Final. and the Junior team (Year 7 and Year 8) qualified for the Final which was held at Basildon.

Teams from all over England qualified for the final from a field of over 2,000 teams initially.

The junior team all performed well with Sara Luck (Year 8) breaking the English School Cup record for the 800m.

Sara then represented Essex in the All England Championships and the team finished overall eighth in England.
