Villages and towns in the Brentwood and Ongar area should be protected from heavier lorries, which will be allowed under new laws.
That is the view of the Liberal Democrats' Parliamentary Spokesman for Brentwood and Ongar, borough councillor David Kendall.
He is calling on the Government to think again on plans to allow 44 tonne lorries for general use onto roads from January 2001.
Cllr Kendall said: "This decision by Labour will lead to yet heavier lorries travelling through Brentwood, Ongar and some of the villages, with the associated noise and pollution."
