Elmwood Colts proved to be the mini-marvels when the soccer competition was the central attraction of Rochford Festival of Sports finals day at King George's Playing Field, Rayleigh.

Elmwood won both the under-seven and under-eight events, beating Rayleigh Boys 3-0 in the former and Great Wakering 2-0 after extra-time in the latter.

Elmwood's hopes of a hat-trick, however, were ended at under-nine level when Billericay beat them 2-1 in the final.

White Ensign were the under-ten champs, beating Island Boys 3-0, while Grovewood Sports went nap in the under-11s with a 5-0 success over Blackgate Gunners.

Shoebury Boys saw off Concord 2-0 in the under-12s with the all Chalden clash in the under-13s going to the B squad, who beat the A team 4-3.

Woodlands Boys took the under-14s, 2-0 over Hamlet Court, while Blackgate gained consolation for their under-11 defeat by beating Grays Spartans 2-0 in the under-15s.

Sweyne Old Boys triumphed 5-0 over Rushleigh Manor in the under-16s and Stanford Wanderers edged home 1-0 over Markhams Eagles in the under-18s.

The senior competitions saw Leigh Ramblers win the Open B John Ralph Cup, beating Wheatleys 4-1, while the C event for the Mobil Cup was won by Oakwood Sports, who thrashed Hullbridge 4-1. Chemico triumphed 4-2 over Rayleigh Trinity for the Rayleigh Print Centre Trophy and the Veterans, with the Bill Pickup Trophy on offer, went to Rayleigh Trinity. They won 2-0 against Hockley Hotspurs.

Oakwood went on to win the Champion of Champions Cup 3-2 after extra-time after seeing off Leigh Ramblers 1-0 at the semi-final stage. Oakwood had beaten Rayleigh Trinity 2-0 to earn their final spot.
