Saturday sees the first Braintree Experience, which looks at the past, present and future.

The town centre will be taking on a medieval theme with various activities for the whole family. Jugglers and acrobats will be keeping shoppers entertained at the George Yard Shopping Centre, and 14-foot-high creature puppets will be mingling with the crowds at the Freeport shopping centre.

Derek Salmon, manager of George Yard, said: "This weekend had a budget of £2,000, which was funded by groups such as the Braintree Town Centre Strategy Group, Braintree Arts Council and George Yard. This is a new event and we are all looking forward to it."

The fun kicks off at about 10am and is expected to go on until about 4pm.
