Chelmsford City will give another promising midfielder a trial in Saturday's friendly match at Jewson League Woodbridge Town.

Rob Harrington, who was voted 'player of the year' at Ryman League Division Two side Hornchurch last season, will line-up with last season's regulars Brett Girling, John Bishop, Ollie Berquez and goalkeeper Paul Catley, who will also be making their First appearances this term.

Other young players will also be given a chance as City manager Gary Bellamy prepares to look at everyone who has been training before deciding on his first team squad.

On Saturday, City easily demolished neighbours Witham Town 4-0 in the first friendly match of the new season.

Gary Bennett opened the scoring after six minutes, and the prolific forward netted again another five minutes before the interval and in between young Kevin Dobinson scored in the 15th minute.

The second half saw Bellmay introduce all his substitutes and one - Furgan Anwar - netted City's fourth goal in the 50th minute.

The manager said he was satisfied with the performance on the day and the game provided an ideal run out for all the players.

"There were some good, individual performances and although the second half was not quite so impressive that was understandable with all the team changes as we intended to give everyone a run out," he explained.

"Tomorrow's game will follow the same format and those regular first teamers who did not appear at Witham will play.''

City's side at Spa Road was: Rayment; Reeve, Barber, Cousins, Lewis; McCoy, Hyatt, Dobinson, Campbell; Portway, and Bennett. The substitutes were: Anwar, Cummings, Newman, Vallely, Embalo, and Otalo.

In the new Dr Martens League Eastern Division fixtures released this week, City face a tough opening spell with a home game against Hastings Town, followed by a midweek trip to Wisbech Town followed by a trip to the New Forest to take on Bashley.

Bellamy said: "We shall be up and running for what will all be tough games anyway, although why we have a long away trip in the middle of the first week, when a club nearer home, like Dartford, would have been more appropriate, remains a mystery.''

In the Dr Martens League Cup First Round, City will play Hastings Town at home on a date to be decided - the one-legged tie must be played before November 13.
