Lomana Tresor Lua Lua is gearing himself for a return to action as Colchester United aim to return to winning ways at Chesham.

Lua Lua has been named in manager Steve Whitton's squad for a pre-season friendly in Buckinghamshire tomorrow (Saturday).

The Zaire-born teenager missed out on the matches against Cornard United and Canvey Island after suffering a leg injury in training last week.

But after returning to training yesterday, Lua Lua is preparing to make his first start of the summer against the Ryman League side.

Whitton said: "Lomana has made good progress since taking a knock to his fibia and, assuming there's no adverse reaction to the training, he'll play a part at Chesham.

"I don't know a lot about their side but I'm told they beat Barnet 6-0 the other night so they must be fairly strong.

"It's going to be another very good workout and another chance for me to check the fitness of the lads.

"Some of them still aren't ready for a full 90 minutes but it's good to make a few changes because it gives me a chance to see some of the younger lads in action."

The U's got their pre-season off to a flyer by destroying Cornard 4-0 on Saturday before tumbling to a 1-0 defeat at Ryman League premier division side Canvey Island on Tuesday.

Whitton is confident his side can bounce back to winning ways and added: "I saw a few things we need to work on during that match but I'm sure we can put them right tomorrow."

Trialist Lee Kersey, a former Tottenham apprentice, featured in both games and started his career with Chesham.

Whitton and the U's first-team squad attended a youth development evening at Essex Universityon Thursday night.

The event, arranged by director of youth Micky Cook, was for parents of youngsters on the books at Layer Road and featured presentations by the FA's Dick Bate and the PFA's Alex Black.
