Elm Park trio Jean Hart, Jim Grey and Ken Hart scooped the honours in a gala event staged at Frinton Bowling Club.

They were up against Clacton's Marilyn Crane, Laurie Freeman and Joe Crane and a classic match was capped by a dramatic finish.

With Marilyn Crane drawing three brilliant shots to put Clacton in the driving seat, Ken Hart used the last wood of the day to steer his side home by nine shots to seven.

The Elm Park trio had earlier battled back to beat Kirby's Liz Smith, Brian Johnson and Con Smith by nine shots to seven in the first semi-final.

In the other, Clacton hit top form to beat favourites Scott Reading, Graham Arnold and Diane Amos by ten shots to four.

Organiser Richard Roff, president of Frinton Bowls Club, said: "The event was a tremendous success and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who took part and the many people who came to watch. They saw some superb bowling."
