Former Essex and England captain Graham Gooch reached his 47th birthday on Sunday but would not have been celebrating his return to first-class cricket last week.
He captained an MCC team against New Zealand A at The Parks, Oxford and although his side won the match, the Essex legend failed to add to his distinguished batting record.
He was adjudged lbw without scoring in the first innings to the second ball that he faced leaving the maestro to reflect, "It's an occupational hazard."
He then scored five runs in his second innings and turned his attention to his captaincy expertise to plot a three run victory.
