A lethal mix of heroin and alcohol killed a 32-year-old Basildon man, an inquest heard.

Meanwhile, police have said they are satisfied Stephen Siddall's death was the result of a tragic accident.

Coroner's officer PC Roy Kebbell told the hearing an ambulance was called to Delhi Road, Pitsea at 10.21pm on April 22.

Its crew found Stephen Siddall unconscious in an upstairs room.

He was taken to Basildon Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mr Siddall's mother identified the body later.

Forensic tests revealed a potentially lethal level of alcohol and morphine in his body.

This was consistent with evidence suggesting Mr Siddall had used heroin, or diamorphine, before his death, the inquest was told.

PC Anna Brown, of Basildon police, revealed Mr Siddall appeared to have been drinking and smoking heroin with friends on the day he died.

Coroner Dr Malcolm Weir recorded a verdict of accidental death.
