A partially-sighted 61-year-old man suffered a fractured skull after being attacked in an attempted robbery.

The man was working in the cycle repair workshop near the edge of the car park at Alton Park Road near the junction of St Osyth Road, Clacton, when the assault happened.

The attacker entered the workshop and struck the man over the head with what police believe was a heavy blunt instrument.

The victim went to Clacton Hospital but was later transferred to Colchester General Hospital due to the seriousness of his injuries.

Det Con Del Smith of Clacton police said the motive appeared to be robbery although nothing was taken.

The attacker is described as aged 23-24, 5ft 10ins, slight to medium build, with tanned complexion and designer stubble.

He had short, mousey to dark brown hair combed forward in a style similar to Liam Gallagher.

The man was wearing a mustard coloured top with an H motif on the breast.

The attack happened at 12.30pm last Friday. The victim is now recovering at home.

Mr Smith said: "It is believed that this man may have called in at the workshop earlier that morning.

"It's a busy time of day at that end of the town and somebody must have seen him."

Anyone with information about the attack should call Clacton police on 01255 221312.
