A 95-year-old woman was today still in shock after a callous burglar robbed her of her engagement ring, her cash box and her pension - on her wedding anniversary. The elderly mum was in her Leigh home when the thief called claiming to be a plain clothed police officer. Officers are linking the burglary to two other incidents. Just an hour before a man called at the home of a pensioner in Stambridge Road, Stambridge, also claiming to be a police officer. But she refused him entry and called the police, by which time the man had fled. Last Thursday the same man called at a house in Hamstel Road, in Southend, claiming to be a policeman but the homeowner again refused him entry and called the police. Investigatin officer Det Con Paul Chambers said: "The victim was left extremely distressed by the incident. "This was a dispicable crime and we are anxious to speak to anyone who has any information about this man so we can arrest him without delay."
