Golfers got a shock when a controlled explosion was carried out just yards from where they were playing.
Royal Navy bomb disposal experts were called in from Portsmouth after blast charges were discovered in a rock breakwater on Jaywick beach.
The team carried out the explosion at around 4.30pm on Friday - giving golfers on the ninth fairway quite a surprise.
The spokesman said they had to wait for low tide to locate the charges.
