WITHAM TOWN ... 6, HALSTEAD TOWN ... 2

Within half an hour of Saturday's pre-season friendly at Spa Road, Witham had built up a four goal lead against a weakened but resolute Halstead side.

Gerry Hawes gave Witham the lead after four minutes when he took his time to shoot and a minute later, Witham were 2-0 up when Steve Farmer netted with a long range shot.

Jamie Gold got a third goal for the hosts from a free kick and in the 28th minute Nigel Hewes lobbed the ball over the luckless Halstead goalkeeper, and just before half-time, Chris Bassett headed the ball in from close range.

With a change of goalkeeper and spirit, Halstead pulled two goals back soon after the break,h Luke Nash (penalty) and Glen Revell the scorers.

Witham lost their way a bit, probably due to the many team changes that took place, and only netted one goal in the second half, Jamie Gold converting a penalty.

Saturday: Witham's pre-season friendlies continue when they host Canterbury City (kick off 3pm). Then on Tuesday (August 8), Town entertain Grays Athletic, and on Saturday, August 12, Witham take on near neighbours Braintree Town at Spa Road (kick off 3pm).
