Maldon race ace and race car builder Graham Hathaway had his first experience last weekend of driving a Le Mans championship Jaguar XJR12 at the Nurburgring, Germany.
Run by JD Classics, based in Rettendon, the 1990 Silk Cut Jaguar XJR12 was competing in the Group C race and was Graham's first taste of driving this type of racing car.
Qualifying third on the grid, he took the lead by the end of the first lap and held this position for five laps.
Win Percy in another Jaguar squeezed past on lap six, with Nike Adams driving a Spice SE88C a lap later. Graham, pictured above, held onto third until the chequered flag, fending off the Nissan R90C of Charlie Agg and the Porsche 956 of Siggi Brunn.
After the race, Graham said: ''That was an awesome car to drive. The grip and acceleration are staggering and is it easily the most exciting racing car I have ever driven throughout my long career.''
