Rising Southend athletics star Adam Hickey had a field day when he competed in the inter-counties match in Kingston at the weekend.

Not only did the 12-year-old Southend Athletic Club member set the fastest time of the day in the 1500m, he also claimed a club age 12 and 13 record with his time of 4.31.3.

That time saw Adam shave more than two seconds off his existing age record and personal best.

And to round off his day at kings Meadow Adam ran a comfortable 2.20 in the 800m.

Adam's delight was mirrored by his club mate Dave Condon who was competing in Solihull.

Dave was at the senior inter regional match in the Midlands consoling himself for his disappointing performance in Budapest.

And he did it in style by winning the shot putt with a throw of 16.73m - the best performance of either of the two pools of competitors.

With a best this season of 16.80m Dave's winning ways in Solihull were more akin to his achievements this season.

Southend AC sprinter Sarah Wilhelmy rounded off a hat-trick of wins for the club at the Dublin International Games in Santry.

Sarah clocked the fastest 200m time of the day, 23.26, as her new training regime began paying dividends.

The runner has experienced lean times since producing a 23.23 two years ago but is currently working with coach Mike MacFarlane on the track.

Glory run - for Southend's Adam Hickey
