A cash pot of £15,000 is available to promote a tourism project.

The money has been put up by Tendring Council with the Tendring Tourism Group and they are looking for a worthwile project to spend it on for the coming year.

The tourism group urges organisations across the district to put forward ideas and schemes under the core area initiative - which is aimed at enhancing and developing sites or areas of special visitor interest.

Last year the people of Brightlingsea benefited from the scheme and created the Mirror Millennium Garden on the Western Promenade.

It involved an extensive planting programme and the creation of a picnic and barbecue area to commemorate the Mirror European sailing event.

Before that, Clacton's seafront benefited, as well as the town's tourist information centre and the Brightlingsea Hard area.

The tourism group now plans to designate a fifth core area to receive the £15,000.

Chairman Diane Boyd said it was a great chance for a local group to help secure funding for a major scheme.

"The quality of previous bids has been outstanding and we hope to see more quality projects being put forward this year," she added.

Projects must meet certain criteria and bids must be submitted by no later than midday on November 3. The application chosen will then be recommended to the council's regeneration committee on November 20 with the cash likely to be handed over in December.
