A golf tournament has helped raise nearly £3,000 for three charities.

Players teed off at Braintree Golf Club, Stisted, when they took part in the Chair's Charity Golf Tournament.

Twenty-four teams of four competed in aid of the three charities chosen by Braintree Council chairman Keiron Boylan - Farleigh Home Care, Lupus UK and the Dialysis Centre at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford.

Teams competing in the tournament included Stansted Airport Fire Service and P G Bones, together with teams from other local authorities such as Harlow and Basildon.

The overall winners of the tournament were BAA Stansted Security who, with only three people on their team, still beat off the competition.

Public relations officer for the council Anne Proudfoot said: "The whole day went very well, the weather held off for us and everyone had a brilliant time."

The tournament was followed by an evening meal and prize-giving ceremony.
