Police have appealed for witnesses after a passenger in a vehicle was killed when it overturned.

He has been named as Alfred Spencer, 53, of Old Road, Clacton.

The driver was taken to Colchester General Hospital but was due to be released today (Monday). Police were still waiting to interview him about the incident.

Firemen were called to the accident, which happened in Clacton just after 6pm on Saturday, to help release one of the men.

A police spokesman said the Suzuki four-wheel drive vehicle had failed to negotiate a left-hand bend at the entrance to Olivers Road at its junction with Wellesley Road, overturned and came to rest on its side.

Both men were thrown from the vehicle and the passenger was crushed.

The passenger, who was in the front seat, was declared dead at the scene.

The 30-year-old driver also lives in Clacton, but police refused to release further details.

Witnesses should contact Stanway traffic police on 01206 762512.
