Someone must have known it was the last time the Four Colnes Show was going to be held outside as organisers were blessed with one of the hottest weekends of the year.

More than 1,500 people went along to the Earls Colne Airfield on Saturday and, as well as enjoying the weather, they made the most of the show's traditional marquee.

The show has been staged in a big tent since 1882, but rising costs have forced organisers to move inside for next year's show.

Tony Wilsher, chairman of the organising committee, said: "The show was a total success. The weather was beautiful and we raised more than £500 for the Essex Air Ambulance."

Mr Wilsher said there was a good chance next year's show would be held in the recreation club in Earls Colne itself, but he wasn't ruling out a return to the airfield and a marquee some time in the future.

He added: "The decision was made a few years ago due to the cost of putting the show on here, but you never know we might go back one year."

Along with the traditional show attractions of home and garden produce, visitors enjoyed music from the Hatfields of Colchester Band and a parade of classic cars.
