Warm weather and schoolchildren on holiday combined to keep Colchester firefighters busy with small fires yesterday (Sunday).
At 4.05am crews were called to rubbish on fire at Villa Road, Stanway.
Just before 1.40pm firefighters put out a fire in woods off Fremantle Road, Blackheath.
Crews next went to Grymes Dyke, Clairmont Road, Stanway, just before 3.30pm to deal with bushes alight.
Just after 4.15pm they put out a small fire on a pier at Cooks shipyard, Wivenhoe.
A fire baler and two hosereel jets were needed to put out stubble on fire in a field by the A137 at Ardleigh just after 7.40pm.
Just after 10pm they put out bins alight at Frank Clater Close, St Anne's.
And just after 8.40am today (Monday) crews dealt with a hedge on fire at King George V playing field, Clairmont Road, Stanway.
